August GST collection sees a slight dip

The GST collection for the month of August slipped to Rs 93,960 crore from the preceding month when the total collection stood at Rs 96,483 crore.August IGST mop-up stood at Rs 49,876 crore whereas cess is at Rs 7,628 crore. August CGST mob-up was at Rs 15,303 crore, whereas SGST mop-up at Rs 21,154 crore.A total of 67 lakh returns were filed in August. Since April 2018, this collection marks the lowest by the government. Gross GST revenue in April stood at Rs 1.03 lakh crore.In April 2018, the finance ministry had attributed the rise to an economic upswing but struck a note of caution on the numbers, saying some of this could be attributed to arrears from previous months.
