Budget 2019: FM says 2030's digital economy to be built on digitization of govt processes, transactions
Finance Minister Piyush Goyal said India’s digital infrastructure and economy of 2030 will be built on the work done in digitisation of government processes and private transactions.Goyal said it is government’s vision to create a Digital India that reaches all sectors of the economy, all parts of the country and impacts lives of all Indians.“Our youth will lead us in this endeavour with innumerable start-ups creating digital India, and millions of jobs in this eco-system,” said Goyal in his Interim Budget speech.Goyal said monthly consumption of mobile data increased by over 50 times in the last five years, and the cost of data and voice calls in India is now possibly the lowest in the world. He also referred to Indian government’s Make In India campaign that is aimed at converting India into a manufacturing hub.“Today, under Make in India, mobile and parts manufacturing companies have increased from 2 to more than 268 providing huge job opportunities,” he said.He said one of the aims of the Indian Government is to make 1 lakh villages into Digital Villages over next five years with the help of Common Service Centres (CSCs).He said more than 3 lakh CSCs are employing about 12 lakh people and are digitally delivering several services to citizens. He said CSCs are expanding their services and creating digital infrastructure in the villages, including connectivity, to convert the villages into “digital” villages.
