Andhra Pradesh regulator approves solar power tariffs

BENGALURU: Andhra Pradesh’s power regulator has approved solar power tariffs arrived at in the auctions, allaying the fears of successful bidders who had started construction of solar projects without waiting for the regulator’s formal approval. They had been given a scare by the state’s power distribution companies (discoms) which – unlike before – kept delaying adopting the tariffs arrived at in the auctions, saying they would not do so till Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) approved the tariffs.APERC has now ordered the discoms to accept the tariffs of four companies that were awaiting such approval — SB Energy, Ayana Renewable Power, Sprng Energy, and Engie, people aware of the development told ET. Tariffs for the projects are in the range of Rs 2.72 to Rs 3.15 per unit.“All the three matters...under consideration herein are ordered, approving the procurement of solar power by Southern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh Limited (APSPDCL) and Eastern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh Limited (APEPDCL) respectively from NTPC and SECI under the PPAs respectively at the tariffs discovered through competitive bidding process,” the APERC order said.
