Dalal Street is immune to China's coronavirus

Various stock markets in Asia have been under pressure by the outbreak of the coronavirus outbreak as investors weighed the impact of the flu on economic activity. However, going by the market’s performance during the deadliest diseases in the past two decades, Indian equity investors may have little to worry. Indian markets have declined in the first month of the outbreak of the major epidemics globally, but they have strongly bounced back within six months. For instance, when Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in October 2018, MSCI World index fell 7 per cent and 3.5 per cent respectively in one month and six months periods. However, Sensex, which fell 5 per cent in the first month, recovered nearly 7 per cent within six months. Except in the case of cholera outbreak in November 2010 and pneumonic plague in September 1994, Indian market have bounced back strongly. 73650181
