Talking to start-up bosses helped Yulu reopen
Amit Gupta, CEO, Yulu, says he took the call to reopen their Bengaluru office with a great deal of trepidation. “Since it was my call, it was my personal responsibility to ensure everybody’s safety. But fear and excitement went hand in hand,” says Gupta.“Throughout the lockdown, we were trying to stay connected on Zoom. But nothing can match the experience of huddling and brainstorming together in a room. It was a joyous experience. I’m enjoying every bit of working from the office once again,” he adds.To go about the reopening process, Gupta says, he sought help from friends and former colleagues. “An ex-colleague is currently in China, and I spoke to her about safety protocols they’re using at their office. Another OEM partner shared some interesting measures they were using, while a co-working space co-founder from India also gave some inputs. Our own playbook was created after listening to all these people.”Measures in placeElaborating about the measures put in place, Gupta says they are lucky to have a huge office space that houses about 110 employees. In the first two weeks, 10-15 people came in every day, and the numbers have increased gradually. Maximum persons tags have been put on meeting rooms, which are sanitised after every meeting. Common touch points are also frequently sanitised. Masks and sanitisers are available. In addition, employees have flexible working hours. Everybody leaves for home by 6.30 pm, so as to adhere to the lockdown rules.While online meetings are encouraged, Gupta remains a firm believer of being in the same room. “When you’re working remotely, you won’t be able to bring out the creativity and ideas required. What brings people together is a foundation of trust. Though some work can be managed remotely, you need to be together for the bigger picture,” Gupta says.76642566
