BJP's first Bengal candidate list likely today

BJP's first list of candidates for the West Bengal Assembly elections is likely to be made final on Thursday, following a scheduled meeting of the party's election committee.Prime Minister Modi is expected to attend today's meeting at the party headquarters in Delhi. Home Minister Amit Shah and party's national chief JP Nadda will also be there.According to reports, Bengal's BJP leaders are already camping in the capital ahead of the candidate announcement.Today's first list is likely to announce candidates for seats going to polls in the first two phases, insiders said. The first two phases will see voting for 60 seats.Voting in Bengal will be held in eight phases. Nandigram, where CM Mamata Banerjee is expected to contest, is the most high-profile seat in the first two phases.Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will also go to the polls alongside Bengal between March 27 and April 29. Counting will be held on May 2. More than 820 seats are up for grabs across four states and a UT this time.
