Mukul Roy named PAC chief in WB Assembly
Trinamool leader Mukul Roy, who recently defected from the BJP, was nominated as the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman by the Speaker of West Bengal assembly Biman Banerjee on Friday during the end of the assembly session. An independent MLA of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) party proposed the name of Mukul Roy and it was supported by Egra Trinamool MLA. Following the announcement by the Speaker, ruckus broke out inside the assembly. Protesting the move, BJP MLAs have walked out from the House .Announcing the name of Roy as PAC Chairman at the end of the assembly session today, Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee said Mukul Roy has a long political experience and even had a stint in the Parliament as well. Considering this, he has been nominated as the PAC Chairman.“It has been the practice and convention of the House in the state and Centre to make the PAC chairman from the Opposition. West Bengal Speaker Biman Banerjee, with his power, has nominated Roy and made an aberration to the practice and convention for the first time,” Suvendu Adhikari said, adding that BJP MLAs did not support Roy’s nomination.Roy, officially a BJP MLA from Krishnanagar Uttar, joined TMC last month. However, he did not resign as an MLA, despite being asked by the saffron party.
