Architects to present Ram Temple layout next week
NEW DELHI: A number of architects will make their presentations for the design of the Ram temple complex in Ayodhya to senior functionaries of the temple trust here this coming week, marking the start of the process of building the temple. A leading construction company has already stationed a small team in Ayodhya and is set to get the job to construct the temple complex, at least two trust members told ET.The Sri Ramjanmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust is expected to select an architect and finalise the design of the entire 67.7-acre temple complex soon after the presentations next week, they said. The design of the temple as such is expected to be largely on the model designed by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) with some tweaks, but the trust is looking at various designs and layouts for the entire complex that will consist of parking, amenities for pilgrims, arrangements for parikrama, kitchens, gaushalas, exhibitions, museums and resting places. Once the layout and construction company are finalised, then the trust will approach Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Bhoomi Pujan, trust president Nritya Gopal Das told ET.The hope is that the temple will be completed by Ram Navami in 2022, he said.Another trustee who requested not to be named said the trust may invite Modi for a “shubh arambh” ceremony. “The construction work of the temple is still to begin,” the person said. “Right now, only work for flattening the site and clearing it of structures and boulders is on. Depending on the lockdown situation and the approval of the overall design of the entire complex, the ceremony to start the work will be done.” Swami Vasudevanand Saraswati, also a trustee, said they wish to stick to the VHP’s model of the Ram temple. “The stones are ready as per the model,” he said.“The temple should be grand – it need not be the tallest. Saints should not pressurise the trust,” Saraswati said, referring to demand from some local saints and leaders like former MP Ramvilas Vedanti for building the “world’s tallest temple” at the site. There has been a flurry of activity in Ayodhya lately with top RSS leader Bhaiyya Ji Joshi visiting Ayodhya and meeting some of the trustees.
